About the Course Leaders
Kerry Taylor, R.G.N. and R.M.
I have been a midwife since 1996, working at both the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, and Worthing Hospital, specialising on the labour ward, before becoming an independent midwife, based in Sussex. (see www.serenitybirths.co.uk)
I first taught antenatal classes whilst I worked for the N.H.S. and whilst I really enjoyed it, became frustrated at the increasingly unmanageable class size and shortage of time to cover all the topics in enough depth.
My passions are water births, homebirths and the use of positions before and during labour
to encourage the best position for the baby during the birth. I believe that giving birth is something you DO, not something that happens to you. All though I can't promise that you
will have the exact birth experience that you wished for, I do believe that thorough preparation will help you cope with any eventuality and take away some of the fear and mystery that can be associated with childbirth.
Louise Readman DipHE RM - Independent Midwife
I decided to train as a midwife, so that I could be actively involved in the amazing process of pregnancy and birth, and make a difference to women’s experiences of childbirth.
I believe that if women and their partners are well informed, it enables them to be confident and prepared for labour and coping with a new baby.
I studied Midwifery to degree level at Brighton University, and I am a member of the Royal College of Midwives, The Independent Midwives Association and regulated by The UK Nursing And Midwifery Council.
Prior to becoming an Independent Midwife, I gained vast experience as an NHS delivery suite midwife and NHS community midwife. I decided to become independent in order to practice true woman-centered care and to give women and their families’ one to one continuity of care, which I felt was lacking within the NHS.
